

Aldbourne Band: Painting in Public
This is a video of a painting I did at Aldbourne a few weeks ago. This is something i wouldn't have done until recently. Painting out and about at various locations has really built my confidence to tackle tricky subjects - and to do it with peeople watching. I plan to visit again next time the band are playing in September! The finished painting at home (I still need to take a picture of it)

Revisiting a View
This week I visited Avebury Manor and painted the view over the garden wall. I might sharpen up the detail slightly and add some white flowers but nothing major; it will mostly stay looking as it is. I did a patchwork of pastel colours as an undercoating which I think helps the end painting look vibrant! Probably the bright weather helps too, bringing in inspirational colour and contrast. I've tried to keep some areas neutral. I have often revisited a similar view but

The Artistic Merit of Wheelbarrows
Over the seasons this year, this view of Avebury Manor's kitchen garden has filled out with colour. It is the ideal kind of composition I love to paint. Angular architecture, bold areas of colours against a cooler background. Natural frames of trees and walls create a strong structural backdrop.
