A Swindon Town Gardens original oil painting, completed on location. This is a view painted by many local artists. The bandstand is a real focal point in the park and an iconic view for people that know the area.
Light bounces into the bandstand where the ceiling reflects the surroundings. Ornate ironwork on the bandstand was carefully painted to contrast the rougher impressionist trees.
The bandstand is only half visible; the centre shows a view through to the edge of the park. A few little dots of colour show the Victorian red brick houses on the street beyond.
There are various greens showing the brightness of summer. The sunlit trees are against a shadowy background.
I painted this in June this year, sitting near the cafe. I hope to return to the park at a different time of year. As I write this, the park is beautiful in the autumn; it is also lovely in spring!
