This selection of greetings cards features two designs of artwork based on cities; Amsterdam and Bristol.
Amsterdam Canal: This is from the Oude Kerk area of Amsterdam; a historic area with the church being the oldest building. It is a hive of creativity and tourism.
From a colourful drawing with ink and collage, sunlit windows reflecting in the water. I used various collage papers, including maps and old drawings and lino printed paper. There are layers of ink and paint on top of these.
Bristol Harbourside: The enormous cargo cranes outside of the M Shed were built in the 1950s, by Stothert & Pitt of Bath. They were easily able to move cargo from ships to railway wagons. There were once 50 cranes. According to M Shed, those that survive had a narrow escape; they had been taken to a scrap metal site and had to be retrieved.
I did a postcard collage of this scene, and used the sketch to create this finished drawing digitally. It includes a sky that was marbled paper from my school days.
